OH141 and Jupiter Artland collaborate to launch open call for the first Rising Residency.

Emerging artists based in Scotland who identify as Womxn, POC, LGBTQ+, and those from a working-class background, are invited to apply for a week-long fully funded residency organised by OH141 in collaboration with Jupiter Artland. The Rising Residency recognises the need for representation of these existing communities within the Scottish and UK art scenes as a whole and hopes to set a precedent. Applicants do not need to have attended art school – applications are open to artists that have been living and creating within Scotland for 3+ years and are based on a body of work that suitably showcases their practice. Artists from all disciplines, including sound design, sculpture, performance, or any visual practice are invited to apply.

The four successful applicants will be hand-picked by established artists and curators representing the most forward-thinking and community driven art disciplines in Scotland. They will also receive an artist’s fee, inclusive of travel, accommodation, food and studio space during the residency.

The Rising Residency aims to give artists the space to develop existing and new work and will further offer a unique opportunity to exhibit this work to the public at Jupiter Rising Festival on 29 and 30 August 2020. OH141 and Jupiter Artland hope to join and further drive existing conversations on the importance of representation by contributing to the creation and development of opportunities for marginalised groups in Scotland.
