Furmaan Ahmed (1995) is multidisciplinary artist from Glasgow, with a fluid practice traversing installation art, image making, set and stage design and art direction.
Across all mediums of Furmaan’s work, they create images and live places that can act as sites of emotional knowledge exchanges for POC queer and trans bodies.
Furmaan's work focuses on evoking transness through Islamic mysticism, Scottish folklore and the elements of collective experience by creating moments that feel unreal and otherworldly. Furmaan wants audiences to consider their realities and think beyond the image filter placed on society as a result of white supremacy and institution.
As a recent graduate from Central Saint Martins, Furmaan is the recipient of the British Fashion Awards: New Wave Creatives 2021. They have already photographed and collaborated with artists such as Willow Smith, SOPHIE, Shygirl, Sasha Velour, Dorian Electra and David Lachapelle.
Furmaan has previously showed work at Jupiter Artland, Gossamer Fog, Tate Modern, Southbank Centre, Moca (Clifford Chance) and most recently Baerenzwinger Berlin.
